Restore normal cooling and kill the freezer buzz with this WR60X10141 evaporator fan motor. This is the small motor behind the back panel of the freezer section that pushes air across the evaporator coils into the fresh food compartment. When it fails, the fridge warms up, frost builds on the coils, and you hear squealing or grinding from the back wall. Swapping the motor is a fraction of the cost of a new refrigerator.

Always confirm your fridge model tag inside the fresh food door frame and match the old motor stamp before ordering.

Symptoms This Fixes

  • Refrigerator section too warm but freezer still cold

  • Squealing humming or grinding noise from the freezer back panel

  • Fan blade does not spin when compressor runs

  • Frost buildup on evaporator coils or back wall of freezer

  • Fridge cycles off early or runs constantly trying to catch up

Why Replace The Motor Alone

The evaporator fan only moves air, it is not a heated part. If the blade still spins free by hand and the wiring reads powered at the plug, the motor winding has opened and you do not need a new control board or defrost heater. Reusing your old fan blade and mounting grommets keeps the repair under one simple swap.

Install Notes

  • Unplug the refrigerator before removing the freezer back panel, live 115V at the connector will arc

  • Take a photo of the old motor orientation and blade position before removal

  • Release the 3 pin connector, remove two mounting screws, lift the old motor out

  • Press the old fan blade onto the new 1/8 inch shaft, seat grommets, secure screws, reconnect plug

  • Spin the blade by hand to confirm clearance against the housing, then restore power and confirm it starts when the door switch is held

  • Basic 1/4 inch nut driver, Phillips screwdriver, and needle nose pliers, 20 to 40 minutes for most DIYers
